Why You Should Drop Everything You’re Doing And Go Travel.

Go Travel. Just do it.

Four years ago I took my very first trip out of country and it was the single best decision I ever made. It's my mission to inspire a new generation of travelers to discover how amazing traveling can be. Read below to find out what I've learned and why you should go travel ASAP!

Experiences > Things. I wish I had known this when I was younger. Capitalism has a funny way of sucking you in and making you want to buy more and more stuff. You need more money to pay for more stuff so you work harder at your job to make it happen. The truth is though, most things that you buy only provide small gratification for a short amount of time. Eventually that new BMW gets old and you get accustomed to it. Buying things will never leave you satisfied. Plus, I know we’ve all heard this before, but you can't take all that crap with you when you die!

When you get older would you rather tell your kids about that BMW you bought when you were 30 or tell them stories about crazy experiences you’ve had in foreign places? Diving with whale sharks, ziplining through the jungle, climbing a mountain, making friends in another country who don't even speak your language.

Travel is truly an investment in yourself. A lot of people tell me, “it must be nice to be on vacation all the time”. While it is nice to travel frequently, I don't consider every trip we take to be a “vacation”. This is because almost everywhere we go I am gaining experiences, learning, and creating content. All of these experiences we've had over the last 4 years have been incredible drivers of new ideas and future businesses. You'd be surprised how many new ideas you have just by immersing yourself in a new environment. It's like candy to the creative part of your brain.

They key here is HOW you travel. If you just book a flight to Cancun and stay in an all-inclusive resort for a solid week never leaving the hotel, you are not gaining any new experiences. That’s a vacation (which is totally cool if that’s what you’re going for). If you book a flight to Cancun, rent a car, drive down the Yucatan Peninsula and hang out with locals while exploring attractions, THAT is traveling. You might be surprised how and where you can gain experiences. Traveling = Learning

People will enjoy you more. Now I'll probably get some flak for this one, but from my experience I feel like it couldn't be more true. Because I've had the opportunity to have incredible experiences around the world, it's easier to have really fun and engaging conversations with friends, family, and strangers. So many people want to travel and it's a fun engaging topic that a lot of folks enjoy conversing about, even if they have never traveled before. People are interested in and inspired by others who are doing what they want to do.

Traveling makes you more confident. I can definitely say that traveling has made me a more confident person in life. Sometimes when traveling you can encounter some challenging experiences. By conquering those circumstances in a foreign country you are much more ready and able to tackle just about any other problem in life.

For us, we've had to deal with things like delayed or canceled flights, damaging our really nice rental car, almost driving off a cliff (thanks Google Maps), getting lost in Amsterdam at 2am, struggling with various communication barriers, GPS not working at all, and that's just to name a few. After conquering all these situations in a foreign countries I'm ready for just about anything life wants to throw at me.

Traveling increases your perspective and opens your mind to new possibilities. I cannot emphasize this enough. If everyone traveled, I believe there would be less discrimination and prejudice in the world. Seeing how other people live around the globe can really change your perspective on a particular race or culture. It's also inspiring to see how so much of the world is happy with so little. Witnessing this also makes me more grateful that I was born here in the USA and have the ability to travel the world. Every trip we have taken there as always been at least one person that left a huge impact on us. We will remember these people forever.

You get to see some really cool stuff before it's gone. Recent projections have shown that a 6-foot ocean level rise may be unavoidable by 2100 or sooner. A sea rise of that magnitude would wipe out many beautiful coastal areas permanently such as Venice, Maldives, Bahamas, Florida Keys, and much more. Go see these beautiful landscapes before they are forever changed by the rising sea or climate change.

You’ll have photos and memories that last a lifetime. I’ll admit, I get sucked in looking at past photos of beautiful places we've seen. A single photo can spark dozens of wonderful memories that you will never forget. If I ever need a pick-me-up I just go take a look at our gallery or Instagram feed and I'm instantly taken back to a beautiful moment in time.
