We absolutely loved this resort located in between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. The views will take your breath away. This was our first all-inclusive experience and it was incredible! We don't like being around too many people so I chose this resort because it is smaller and set in the jungle as you can see from the first picture below.

Catalonia Royal Tulum

Location & Check In - First of all, this resort is located about 1hr south of Cancun Airport so you will need to arrange transportation. Just do a quick search online and book in advance would be my advice. Check in was easy and they asked us multiple times if we were on honeymoon, special holiday or celebration. As some reviewers have mentioned, they do ask you if you would like to attend a "presentation" and we politely said no and that was all. The resort itself is beautiful and wonderfully designed right into the jungle. Lots of nature to see right within the resort. Very intimate setting. Guests were a good mix of nationalities and ages, which we love to see.

Amenities - These guys have got everything you could possibly want or need covered. There is a nightly schedule of entertainment from a beach Dance party, to a water circus, and more - there is plenty to keep you entertained your entire trip. The hotel provides snorkel excursions right off the beach along with beach volleyball and more. The pool is gigantic and there's a ton of great cabanas to relax and sip your drinks all day long!

Dining - I am a serious foodie and have high standards when it comes to food. There are several restaurants within the resort and we enjoyed them for the most part. Breakfast buffet is best I have ever seen with chefs making food to order right in front of you. Plus a fruit bar with over 20-30 types of fruit. Also have your typical European breakfast spread too. The pre made scrambled eggs were kinda gross though. The lunch buffet was mediocre at best one day but definitely better the next time we had tried it. They seem to vary the menu daily which is great. There is also a "snack bar" with things like burgers, sandwiches, salad, pizza, ect. First day we were there the service was poor. The server forgot our order twice and forgot to refill drinks multiple times. However the food was good! The second time we were there it was better service. The dinner restaurants are all fantastic. Our favorite was the Spanish tapas and the Mexican food. Delicious, high quality, great presentation/plating, and 5 star service. Loved Enrique who was our server several times. We also loved the self-service tequila bar!

Room - The room was very inviting. Travertine tile everywhere. Beautiful rain shower head, nice bed with canopy, balcony with jungle views. Cute animals running around in the trees you can see from your room or anywhere in the resort for that matter. The resort is very, very clean and the staff is hard at work constantly to maintain a polished appearance. They are also very adamant about cleaning your room, so if you don't want to be bothered be sure to get a "do not disturb" sign!! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and most speak good English too. Shout out to one of the security guards, Juan Carlos, who we really enjoyed speaking with one night under the stars.

Service - Overall the service was exceptional. We made many friends with the staff that worked there. From our server Enrique, to Juan Carlos the security guard, everyone was so very accommodating and really enhanced the experience. Another bonus is that most of the staff speaks fluent english too!

Cervesa

Beach - Okay, I had to add another category on this one because the beach was so fantastic. Tons of free rentals and activities you can do on the beach. Loved the juice bar and beachside drink service. I am an avid snorkeler and scuba diver so I was interested to see if there was any good reef by the resort. I was not disappointed. Even though there is really nothing to see directly In front of the resort, if you look out about 100 yards to the right there is a wave break where there is a fantastic reef with beautiful, healthy coral heads in about 5 feet of water. Some places the coral is reaching the surface!
